In research the Pentland clan is closely related to the Gunn clan we even share the same tartan colors plus one brown thread next to the red. Always looking for more information. Our ancestors came to Canada via the Hudson Bay Company as land surveyors. Then to the west coast of the USA. Still trying to figure out the gap between the three Pentlands adam christan and david and the HBC.
Also trying to figure out why the tartans are so close just one line different?

Hi, I've known about the Gunn clan for years after my sister and I did some research into our family name. I was so excited to hear that we are named after our clan in scotland! I've never met any other Gunn's besides my family before but I have had plans to visit Scotland sometime in my lifetime and research our history and hopefully meet my scotish kin. Thank you for creating this site I didn't know that there were so many people who share my name it's exciting. ciao!

My grandmother was Margaret Gunn. She moved to England from Glasgow. Her Brother Tom lost his family in the East London school bombing during second world war London blitz. We have found out through my grandson that the family Gunn caries the gene that causes Fragile X syndrome. Have been trying to find if others have children with the same genetic defect.

My great, great, grandfather Andrew Williamson came to California during the 1848 gold rush. He sailed around the horn of South America. He was a tin smith and made gold pans for the prospectors. He was born June 8, 1835 in Dundee, Scotland. He settled in San Luis Obisbo, California.

I have been researching my Grandfather's side of the family for 7 years. Cleveland Lyde Williamson. I have traced Joseph William Williamson and William Joseph Williamson to England and I do not have their spouce's names. I am at a dead end because these two names are found in all of Scotland and Ireland and England.
I am very interested in the Gunn Clan.
I have lots of information on the Williamsons and most were living in North and South Carolina when they came to the USA. Some from Virginia.
I am also trying to find my Grandmothers family Sadie Elizabeth Henderson. I was told she was Scotch/Irish. Does this mean that she was born in Scotland and then they moved to Ireland?

My Brother has just started researching our family ancestry, my father died when I was 3 so do not have much to go on. We did find out that my grandparents came from Portpatrick Scotland, My grandfather William Gunn was born their and lived with his wife Mary Alice O'Rourke and their children. My Great Grandparents Thomas Alexander Gunn and his wife Mary McAlpin were married in 1864 and lived in Portpatrick. My Great Grandfather was on the CoastGuard on a ship called the HMS Lord Warden. I believe they once lived at 3 Admiralty Square , PortPatrick, Scotland

Hi, I've visited this site before and established that my family could be a sept of the Gunn Clan. My Grandfather was George Alan Williamson, born in Derbyshire/ Nottinghamshire borders in 1903. He always claimed to be very proud of his Gunn clan heritage. My brother has traced the Williamson line back in that area to late 1700's, but it seems to fizzle out around then. I found an interesting link with a site for births deaths and marriages in Orkney/ John o' Groats. Many, many Williamsons of which George and other family Christian names occured with great regularity. Are there any Williamsons (or any other related Gunn sept) who could shine some light on the great leap from Orkney to Derbyshire??? I would love to hear from you

Growing up I always heard stories about how the Robinson's were descendants of the Gunn Clann, who were a Highland
clan and the only time that they would come down off their mountain was to pillage and plunder!!
That explains alot about my family....

I learned from my son, James Jr. a piper himself in Pennsylvania, USA that we were a sept of the Gunn Clan. Our heritage has been traced back to the times of the Nordic invasion of Scotland. Since learning this, we have been joining our clan brothers each year at the Scottish Games, held at Furman University each year. Until just a few years ago, I knew nothing of my heritage, and now it is a joy to participate at the gatherings each year.

I am Mark Swanson of Clan Gunn, I was born in Gore, New Zealand. I am son of Bruce Swanson(Gore, NZ), son of George Swanson(Wick, Scotland), who was one of 12 children (6 of whom were twins), of the 12, 6 immigrated to NZ. I never new my Grandad because he died when my Dad was only 7. I did meet my Great uncle John once when he travelled out to NZ from Scotland about 30 yrs ago but never met anyone else from his family.
I was raised in the knowledge that I was of Clan Gunn and I and my brothers are proud wearers of the Kilt, each recieving our own kilt(Gunn modern) on our 21st birthdays!(long time ago).
There have been some significant contributions to NZ by Gunns, for instance my Grandfather was the first to export Queen Bees from NZ, which incedentally was sent to Canada.
I would love to learn more about my family in Scotland, if anyone has some info please feel free to let me know. Regards, Mark.

I'm a descendant of West Wilson from Ayrshire Scotland who came to the US (Tama County Iowa) in 1846. He was my great grandfather. There were 11 children in the family and some stayed in Scotland. His nephew became Secretary of Agriculture under 3 US Presidents. I came across this site by pure accident and it is wonderful! Any Wilson's from Iowa out there I would love to hear from you. My ggrandfather was one of the first settlers in Tama County Iowa along with one of his brothers.

I've been trying to pick tracing my family tree on my fathers side. My Aunt told me many many years ago that she believed that we were part of the Gunn clan, unfortunately her health got bad not long after that and couldn't continue with her searching. So I have decided to attempt to pick up where she left off. Our current family hails from south Georgia but she found mention of earlier family members in North Carolina and then got stumped when the records seemed to lead to Scotland.

I have been researching both my mothers family and my fathers, and the Johnson name has brought up that I am of the Gunn Clan, funny, I always thought my red hair and freckle was of Irish decent, so far I am only finding French on dad's side and scots on my mom's side. I am still researching, so hello family roots.
