Hello: My Wife was a Wilson. Her Great Grandmother was a Sandilands. That makes my wife a very Great Granddaughter of Robert the Bruce. Princess Jean Stewart the daughter of King Robert the Second married Sir James Sandilands. His Grandmother was the widow of The Bruce's brother and the sister of the Good Douglas (the Black Knight). The Sandilands still live in Mid-Calder at Calder House. It was the property of the Knights of Saint John, and was retained by Sir James the last Grand Master of the Order. John Knox was a friend of the family and held his first Protestant Communion at the family Kirk. William Wallace's only surviving signature is on a letter written on the family estate.
Tanya's Grandfather Henry Wilson told her she was Scottish, but he never made the Sandilands connection as he followed the Wilson Line. We wish he could have know his royal linage.
Tanya is a collector of Scottish Highland Pistols, so I guess she still feels like a Gunn. Either Peace or War.

Sorry, forgot to mention that my husband's name is Sean, and that our last name comes from his step-father who legally adopted Sean and his sister when he married Sean's mother.

Greetings all! My husband is descended from Clan Gunn, and not even all that distantly; his maternal grandmother's maiden name was Gunn (her first name is Della, she was born in Missouri, and married Walter Shelstad, Sr.), and her father was James Gunn. That's as far back as I know, I have to make time to see if Grandma can give me any other names.

Yes, I have a book that my cousin did on our family history and my maiden name use to be Robinson and the it's a book on the Gunn Clan. I'd really like to know if it's correct and where it started from. He went on line to look things up of our family history and etc., but he wasn't for sure if it was correct. But it does have my maiden name in there. For I'd like to know this, so, way I can pass it on to my children and grandchildren. This way they'd know about their family history and where it all got started. My father said we were half Irish, Scottish, & etc. In other words a mixture of no telling what. But I would like to know if there's any more relatives out there on my father's side. Many thanks.

I found out recently that on my moms side, I am part Welsh, Part Irish, part Norwegian, and (more to the point) Scottish. I have a very detailed family History and i did some digging. I found out that My Scottish Clan was Gunn,so i did some MORE digging and learned all about my Clann, which also explains my Norwegian. My Very first ancestor to arraive in America had the Surname "Henderson" in 1607. which as it turns out is a sub clan of Gunn. I ive always been interested in my Family History and if anyone else here can tell me anything else about Gunn, i would appriciate it.

My fathers name was William Henry Wilson, he was born in Lamont, Alberta, Canada June 16, 1928 and passed away October 20, 2004. My Dad's Grandmother came over from Europe to New York when my Grandfather was a small boy, it was then they changed their name to Wilson. When my Grandfather grew up he married Ruth and moved to Lamont, Alberta where my father was born. In approx 1933 my fathers parents moved to Washington State and then made their final move to Peachland, British Columbia.

Just found this great site when I was surfing the web. My father's family is from Clan Gunn and have made it a tradtion that all of the males in our family get the crest tattooed on their arm. My sister and I are considering extending the tradition and getting smaller crest elsewhere to symbolize our family roots. Glad I could find this site and possibably connect with some distant family :)

I'm related to the family Rafidison from Madagascar. It seemed that the great-grandfather of my partner and thus great-great-grandfather of my children was a Wilson from Schotland, travelling with his cousin Robertson in Madagascar. Both had children in Madagascar. My partners cousins are named Robertson.
Can someone enlighten us over the possibility of Scottisch ancestors?
We (family Rafidison & Van de Vliet) live in Deurne by Antwerp in Belgium.

Many thanks in advance,

Jeanne-Marie Van de Vliet

Amendment to original post: Sorry, I made a mistake on Helen Gunn's children - was reading the wrong bit of the chart! Helen Gunn's children by David Duchart seem to be four: John Duchart (my great grandfather), Peter, Robert and David. This again from Tricia's very helpful rootsweb site!. Any info on Helen Gunn, Wick born circa 1840, died 1900 would be helpful!

I have recently come across this site and some other Gunn clan info and am trying to research my great great grandmother, Helen (or maybe Hellen) Gunn. Born around 1840 (perhaps 1838), died in 1900 and married to David Duchart. They lived at 31 VanSittart street in Wick Scotland, and had 9 children: Douglas, David, James, Elizabeth, Mary Alice, Martha Jane, John, Alfred and my Granny, Helen Gunn Duchart' who married Grandpa, Lt Col Richard Smith Lawson. My father was born in Wick, Ian Lawson, and is still living, happy to help in some of this research. I have seen only one listing about Helen Gunn on Trica Barnett's fabulous rootsweb page, but she does not track Helen back any farther although the Duchart line goes happily way back. Thanks, Tricia!

I was born in Aberdeen although now live in the US. My son Ian is very interested in the Gunn tradition, and he also would seem to have some Gunn in him from his father's American side who is also a Crowner. Interesting!

Any information on this Helen Gunn would be most appreciated!

Thanks, Liz Jones
